Penang, with its beaches, culinary offerings, historic architecture, and an English-speaking community of expats, has been chosen as Penang has been named the second “best place in the world to retire” by the Conde Nast Traveller magazine, thanks to its beaches, culinary offerings, culture and facilities, reported The Star.
The island was the only destination from Asia to be featured in “The 10 Best Places in the World to Retire” list written by Cynthia Drescher on March 3, which lists Coronado, Panama as top choice, and Caiscais, Portugal as third.
Drescher said that foreigners could easily apply for 10 year visas under the government’s “Malaysia My Second Home” programme.
“Once you’re in, head to Penang for the best of the country’s culinary offerings, historic architecture, a thriving art scene, international-standard health care, and an English-speaking community of expats,” she wrote.
Drescher noted that Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Langkawi were all just quick, cheap flights away from the island.
She also highlighted that the island’s capital George Town was a Unesco world heritage site.
